Note: For those who are unfamiliar with a physician being "board-certified," it means that she or he has taken a national exam in their specialty after completing a recognized residency program. Most gastroenterologists have done residencies in Internal Medicine and then gone on to do fellowships in gastroenterology. They must re-certify periodically.
