Living the Gluten Free Lifestyle Does NOT Have to Be "Living La Vida Loca" !
Living the gluten free lifestyle doesn't have to be difficult nor should it drive you "loco". It may certainly be challenging at first, but so is learning to play the piano. Like anything else new, it requires a commitment and practice. Learning as much as you can only helps to make the process easier and faster. Your first step might be to join a local or national support group. Members of a support group can be there for you with answers to your questions, camaraderie and support. Naturally, Celiac Support of Greater Phoenix is always here to help you. Our national group, The Celiac Disease Foundation, is also an excellent resource for information and support. There are many other Celiac support groups, both locally and nationally, that are available to make the gluten free lifestyle easier for you, as well. Joining an Internet listserv is another excellent way to learn more, gain support and make Celiac friends. You can join our local PhoenixCeliac listserv or an international one. The advantage to the local listserve is you will also receive CSGP announcements as well as learn about restaurants and stores in the greater Phoenix area. The advantage to being a member of the international listserv is you will receive a much broader range of information. Since the membership of the international listserve is far greater in number than our local PhoenixCeliac listerve, you also can expect to receive a larger amount of daily e-mail. In today's day and age, we're fortunate to have the Internet at our fingertips as a resource. A simple Google search will bring up a wide range of information to help us with the gluten free lifestyle. Always, however, keep in mind the source of the information for its validity and, it never hurts to check and double check for accuracy. There are also many excellent sites for medical information about Celiac Disease, though our national support groups sites are a good place to start. One site, which we have found to be an excellent "all-around" Internet resource that answers a large range of questions is www.celiac.com. Some people like the convenience and variety that ordering by mail offers. We've listed some international gluten free mail order vendors for you on this site, too. This list is certainly not all inclusive but, at least it's a start. You can search the Internet for even more. Take advantage, too, of our local gf shopping stores that work so hard at keeping gf items stocked on their shelves for us. Supporting them also means that they will be there for us when we need them. In addition, we've listed some of the gluten free lifestyle publications that are available to us. Our list is only the tip of the iceberg. Celiac friends and support groups can recommend many others. A search of the Internet will bring up more titles, as well. Do take advantage of all the resources available to us as you embark on this new gluten free adventure and lifestyle. Treat yourself to a dinner out at one of our wonderful local restaurants from time to time. After all, living the gluten free lifestyle need not be difficult with all of the right resources available at our fingertips. Living La Vida Gluten Free really does get to be easy and delicious, too!
